On Dec. 22, 2008 a dike at the Tennessee Valley Authority Fossil Plant in Roane County, Tennessee, broke, releasing over one billion gallons of coal ash slurry down the Emory River. Beyond the environmental impact, the largest industrial spill in American history changed the community forever.
