Santa Cruz, Bolivia

I just returned to Lima after a few days in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, taking photos for Pro Mujer, an NGO that works to improve women’s lives and fight poverty in Latin America. Elie Gardner and I went together to record photo and video interviews of the women Pro Mujer serves. It was definitely inspiring to hear their stories.

Ninety

Walking around the town of Tupin, near Tarma, Junin, I noticed 90-year old Ramon Guerrero Garcia standing by the door of a house made of mud. Every time I meet someone about his age I always ask for the “secret” – How do you do it? How do I get to ninety? His answer: Don’t smoke, don’t drink, work hard, be honest and eat a hearty breakfast and lunch. Skip dinner.

New Brunswick

One of the highlights of my time with the Blue Planet Expedition was the time I spent in New Brunswick, Canada. Here I learned about the Petitcodiac, a river that in 2003 was considered the most endangered river in Canada, it is now on its way to recovery thanks to community efforts.
I also spent time with Reid Brown, a six generation fisherman, who is concerned that the tradition he carries won’t continue, as waters are poluted by salmon fish farms.

LIVING WITH THE KINGSTON COAL ASH SPILL
